Sony released Firmware version 5.0 for PSP

Sony has released new firmware version 5.0 for the PlayStation Portable known as the PSP. The version has the PlayStation Network that allows user to access to the PlayStation Store and download contents directly their PSP. Sony has also added a sleep timer, a full screen keyboard, and the new XMB background design. SCEA’s Grace Chen demonstrates the PlayStation Store on PSP.

PSP 2 by Tai Chiem

Designer Tai Chiem has come out with the PSP 2 design. This concept comes with OLED display that can be rolled up when not in use. It features an electric charge powering the display, stereo speakers on either side double as a jog wheel and camera control. Nice work but I’m sure that it is not going to happen, for PSP I mean, could be useful for other devices maybe to come in that shape.

Sony's eBook Reader PRS-700 with a Touch Screen Panel

Sony officially announce its new stylish eBook reader PRS-700 with a 6 inch touchscreen panel that allows for page flipping with a simple swiping motion with a finger. The textured black casing and soft black cover contribute to its envy-inspiring design. Its just 283 grams in weight, so its the perfect and comfortable way to carry your favourite books with you wherever you go. The device still features high-resolution, high contrast electronic paper display technology which provides a reading experience very much akin to ink-on-paper. The result is crisp text and graphics that are highly readable, even in bright sunlight. For times when ambient light is not available, Sony is the first to offer a built-in LED reading light. It can store around 350 eBooks and is compatible with MicroSD and MS-Duo cards. it will start shipping in November 2008 and costs around $400(approx. Rs. 18000). It comes with a USB cable, eBook Library PC companion software and a color-coordinated, protective soft cover.

Sony officially launches their long awaited A900(24.6 MP camera)-a full frame DSLR model

Atlast the long awaited Sony A900 goes official and its the world's first 24.6 MP camera, a full frame DSLR that features a 24.6 effective MP CMOS sensor, the advanced new dual BIONZ processor, a 3.0-Inch Xtra Fine LCD monitor, 9 Auto Focus point, an ISO range between 100 to 6400, an enhanced SteadyShot INSIDE that offers up to 4.0 steps anti-shake performance with lenses, and an HDMI output. Intelligent Preview function is added too, the camera is working with Memory Stick Duo/Memory Stick PRO Duo/Memory Stick PRO HG Duo/ CF.

The Sony α900 will be available in October.

Built for years of unstinting service in challenging environments, the α900 is ruggedly constructed from a high-tensile aluminium chassis with magnesium alloy body panels. Viewfinder, card slots, controls and other sensitive areas are protected from dust and moisture by rubber seals for worry-free shooting. The inside of the camera is also protected by an anti-dust system that safeguards the full-frame sensor from the effects of dust entering the body during lens exchange.

Sony Vaio AW series notebook PC announced

Sony Vaio’s new AW series notebook PC featuring an 18.4-inch LCD display that delivers vibrant colors in stunning 1080p clarity.

The Sony AW series is ideal for multimedia enthusiasts or photographers who view or edit high-definition content on-the go.

Sony ICF-CD3iP iPhone/iPod docking station

Sony has announced their ICF-CD3iP, their latest iPhone/iPod docking station. It has the controls buttons at the front, a CD player that reads CD-R/RW’s and MP3 CDs.

A remote control is included which allows you to control the iPod/iPhone, CD and Radio functions wirelessly.

The Sony ICF-CD3iP docking station is available in October, 2008, priced at $100(approx. Rs. 4500).

New Sony PSP-3000 will hit markets in October 2008

Sony announced a new PSP-3000 handheld gaming console. We don't have a full spec sheet yet, but the big two updates are going to be a new, brighter screen ("highest-level contrast ratio, response time, and wider color gamut possible on a portable LCD screen" Sony claims) and an integrated microphone (making those impromptu Skype chats a whole lot more practical).

The wider color gamut means that the new PSP screen is capable of displaying a wider range of colors. The new LCD also features five times the contrast ratio and quicker pixel-response times than the old PSP display. The response time has doubled in speed and will help eliminate ghosting or blurring during gameplay and video playback.

No word on release yet, but the PSP-3000 will be available in Europe on October 15th for €199. Hopefully we'll have a better picture for you soon, but it looks a lot like the existing PSPs.

Sony Recalls Laptops For Possible Overheating

Sony is recalling 440,000 Vaio laptop computers worldwide because of a wiring flaw that could cause overheating.

Sony said Thursday the recall involves 19 models in the Vaio TZ series manufactured between May 2007 and July 2008.

The Tokyo-based consumer electronics company said improperly placed wires near the hinge connecting the body of the laptop and its display could wear quickly, causing a short circuit and overheating. A flaw in a circuit board inside the display could also overheat its rim.

Sony has received 209 reports of overheating worldwide, including seven cases in which people received minor burns.

The laptop problem comes two years after Sony had to engage in massive recalls of laptop batteries, which also caused overheating or even burst into flames.
